leaking pool filter

The pool filter has a large diameter plug at its base that is leaking. Is it possible that all I need is to replace the plug or do I need a service technician? Will I be allowing the sand to drain out if I remove the plug?

  1. Hi Jim, it’s possible just an o-ring is pinched or worn out and needs to be replaced inside the drain cap. You won’t lose any sand from the filter if you remove the drain cap but any water in the tank will start to drain when you remove the cap so I would pickup a drain cap o-ring and or drain cap before you remove it so you can minimize water loss from the tank. It drains out fairly slow when the cap is removed by kinda like a bad leaky faucet.
