Aqua spa pak Gamma heater issue

  • Hi there I have an old Aqua spa pak Gamma 240V, 4kw that keeps tripping the GFI. Ive narrowed it down to the heater. Should I replace it? I cant seem to find parts anywhere for this old unit. Any suggestions?

  1. Alex, if you have diagnosed that the Heater element is creating the Ground Fault trip then the next step would be to replace the element.  Please note sometimes there is more than 1 item creating the ground fault trip, replacing the element may not be all that is required but you will not know that until you have performed the change of element. The Aqua-Tech Parts department usually stocks the element for the Gamma 240. The part number for that unit is 133030075. Call the parts department at 204.233.8822 before you plan to come in to ensure it is in stock and reference that number

  2. I have an older hot tub and the heater is not working. Replaced the pressure switch. It’s an old heater “aqua spa pak asp-2000”. Can I buy an element for this unit? Or what is a compatible heater to replace it if I can’t get an element?

    1. Hi Gisela. Yes you could replace the element. Depending how old the control box is you may want to just replace it. If you can tell me what the kw rating of the heater is 1.5kw, 4kw or 5.5kw and how many pumps you have I could send you a link for both.

  3. I have 1 pump and will have to check the kw rating and get back to you tomorrow. Do you carry the element for such an old heater? Could you send a link for all 3 kw ratings and name of a replacement heater?

    1. Hi Gisela. I’ve attached a couple of links of the more common heater elements. You should have a label on the side of the ASP box indicating the kw. I’ve also attached a link to a new retrofit control box bundle. This control box is a similar footprint to the ASP:

Hello, I have an Aqua Spa Pak model Z2EGD7L-9505AE2 . Had it installed about 2 years ago used it that winter then it sat for over a year unused. set it up this summer.. and have only used it maybe 4 times. the other night we went in pushed button for the jets and barely anything happened opened the values for more air and zilch pressure. Pushed button and it turn spa off completely pushed it again and the jets are at what it would be like in idle.
took protective cover off the motor set up to see if a plug dislodged… i am not knowledgeable at all..wanted to see if there was fuses maybe i blew one.
noticed the light is on where it says HIGH LIMIT TRIPPED. can any one tell me what might have happened?

    1. Hi Georgina. If you have a manual reset for the hi limit you could press that. If it is an electronic hi limit sensor you have you may need to cool off the water in the spa if it overheated or if the area near the sensor dry fired you would need to cool of that area. Remove your filters and check them in case they are plugged and caused an overheat situation. If this all checks out you would want to check all your connections inside the control box for breaks or broken wires. Also check the wires outside of the control box and the cable from your control to the controller box.

  5. I have an older Hydro-Massage Aqua Spa Pak – Model Gamma 240A-15 Serial Number. 41127. The pump is a 1.5 hp pump with a flow rate of 91 g/m. The heater is 5.5kw. I bought it second hand and it has never really worked properly. It heats up and works fine for a while then blows one or other of the internal fuses. This usually happens if I decide to change the spa temperature. I have checked all the switches and they all appear to be functioning properly. The heater appears to be fine. I am just wondering if it makes more sense to just replace the unit with something newer than keep fiddling with it or if I am missing something basic here. If you recommend replacing it, what would you recommend instead. Thanks

    1. Hi Rob. It could be that something like the pump or heater is just pulling too much current after running for a time. If it is blowing the internal fuses then it could be the pump. The trick is it may be that the pump is ok to run by itself til the heater is turned on and then then it takes out the pump fuse. It sounds like it could be a bad pump or bad wiring and or bad connections at the pump. If you don’t feel like chasing an intermittent or nuissance tripping of fuses I would recommend replacing what you have with the product in these two links. They would take up the least amount of space and leave you lots of room to adapt to the existing plumbing. The control box is also 230v/115v convertible. It works with a 115v pump but the heater can be 4kw if you run 230v to the control box: https://support.aqua-tech.ca/store/index.php/spa-parts/spa-paks/balboa/vs100-balboa-controller-kit-part-number-54825-01.html

5.5kw heater control boxes are available but add another $200 to the price approx.

Hello, I have an Aqua Spa Pak , Model ASP-2000-6SS. S.N. 39327, Input 240 , 40 amps, Pump HP, Heater 5.5 KW, Flowrate. GPM
The high limit switch keeps tripping at 92-94 degrees, the element was replaced last summer, it worked fine until now. When I reset, temperature will go up to 100 deg. The knob on control panel is turned to maximum (this panel was replaced last year)
Can I replace the high limit switch? What are my options?
    Thank you! Joanne

    1. Hi Joanne. You could try replacing the hi limit switch. They are in stock. If you send me your email and postal code I could send you a purchase link for this switch to order.

  7. I have a Hydro Massage Spa Pack
Model: Pro Series 3 Aqua Spa Pak 2000 (ASP-2000-6)
    240v 5.3 KW

Hot tub stopped heating , red light does not come on when the dial(temp) is turned up. Reset switch does not trip.
Looking for help troubleshooting. What next? Could it be one of the 3 fuses in the mechanical box? or thermostat? or pressure switch mentioned here… and lastly I suppose the heating element? Just not sure what to check first.

    Thanks

  8. I have an older pack as well, ASP-2000-6-K. Everything seems to function properly but it quit heating. The heater relay seems to engage (I can hear it click when I adjust the heat), high and low pump speeds work, the three big fuses inside the pack are good. Everything functions except, apparently, the heater. I have not yet tested anything for continuity/resistance. If I come to the conclusion that the element has burnt out, what would the replacement part be?

    1. Hi Steve the replacement part would be about 85 bucks. Let me know what kw heater you have ie 4kw or 5.5kw if you would like to order one.

  9. it is 5.5. thanks. I am in Canada, if you are in the US ordering might be a bit tedious, but feel free to message me the ordering info, thanks!

  10. Hi Nigel. I have a aqua spa pak, gamma 240A-15,35amps,1.5hp,5.5kw. My problem is that my hot tub heats up, but not like it should, it trips out and the water only gets warm. What do you my problem is.

    1. If the hi limit trips, the water is only warm and there is good water movement in the spa you may have a bad hi limit switch. Did you want to buy a new one?
